Harrington, DE – The Delaware Valley Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association is pleased to announce Sue Vannier has won its 2025 Caretaker of the Year Award.
Vannier was nominated by the Jo Ann Looney-King and Jim King Jr. stable. She has devoted more than 50 years to the industry.
She began her career in Maryland, working for Austin Thomas and has become a valuable part of the equine community across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Florida. She worked at Pompano Park and Sunshine Meadows (Florida) for 10 winters, where she specialized in working with 2-year-olds. More recently, she has worked with the King stable in Harrington. She is the first one at the stable each morning and works tirelessly seven days a week as a vital part of the operation.
Vannier will receive her award along with a $250 check at the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association (DSOA) banquet on Jan. 16, 2026.
