Lexington, KY — On Thursday night at The Red Mile, Alan Kirschenbaum’s Sugar Glider won her sixth in a row, taking the $92,000 final of the Kentucky Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies in convincing style. Dave Palone moved the daughter of Jate Lobell to the front past the quarter and led every step thereafter, winning handily by a length and a half in 1:532.
Since being teamed with Palone, the George Berkner-trainee has been undefeated, winning an Arden Downs division at The Meadows, a Molly Pitcher division at Freehold, and four consecutive Kentucky sired events here at The Red Mile.
Southern Magnolia (Mike Lachance) finished with plenty of energy after saving ground early and got up for a second place finish at odds of nearly 90-1, while the Cheyenne Gang’s Cheyenne Adrienne finished third for Yannick Gingras.
Not much went right on this night for Chotat Milk, who had been a tough second to Sugar Glider twice in a row. She went offstride briefly immediately after the start, and ended up parked out through the middle half before tiring and fading to ninth.
In the 10th race, the consolation event for the Kentucky Sires Stakes, Dave Palone was again victorious, this time with the Cambest filly Sister J.
Sister J went right to the top and was never seriously threatened, winning by a length in 1:554. Doublethepleasure finished well from far back to pick up the place check, with French Toast third.
Judith Miller of Blairsville, Pennsylvania owns Sister J, who is trained by Ervin Miller.
