Sunny Sicily takes Vernon feature; Bailey wins four

Vernon, NY — Sunny Sicily (Steeven Genois) captured the featured pacing event for fillies and mares at Vernon Downs on Friday (May 31).

Milleniums Girl (John MacDonald) got to the first quarter first in :28.1. he used a :28.4 second quarter to lead to the half in :57. Lady To Watch (Leon Bailey) came first-up going around the final turn and Sunny Sicily ($11.00) made her move second-over, but Milleniums Girl maintained her lead to three-quarters in 1:25.1.

As they reached the stretch, Sunny Sicily fanned three-wide and went all-out after the leader. Runner-up Milleniums Girl dug in, but Sunny Sicily came flying and blew right on by in deep stretch to win in 1:54.3. Lady To Watch finished third.

Sunny Sicily is a 7-year-old mare by Sunshine Beach owned and trained by Fannie Saul-Beaulieu. It was her second win this season. She now has 13 career victories.

Leon Bailey recorded a driving grand slam, winning with HP Mighty Angus, Smokey’s Passion, Glory Ghost and Exarch.
