T Red breaks pacing track record at Wood County Fair

by Bill Peters, Regional Coordinator, the Ohio Fair Racing Conference

Edgerton, OH — T Red (Cams Eclipse-Al’s Honey) paced the fastest mile in the 62-year history of harness racing at the Wood County Fair in Bowling Green, Ohio, on Tuesday (Aug. 4).

The 10-year-old gelding toured the half-mile oval in 1:57.4. The old record was 1:58 which was shared by Birthday Present in 2006 and Lusty Me in 2009. Henry Gulley is the owner-trainer of T Red with Mark Headworth picking up the catch-drive in the record-setting performance.

Ken Holliday piloted Hula Majic (Kadabra-Armbro Vagabond) to the fastest trot of the night in capturing the Free For All in 2:03. Ron Boston is the 5-year-old mare’s owner and trainer.

Mark Headworth was the leading driver for the evening with four wins while Ron Steck, John Konesky III and Bill Webb each had three trainer victories to share honors in that category.

A big thanks to Speed Superintendent Dennis Zernhel and Track Superintendent Dave Chamberlain with the assistance of some Wood County horsemen for putting on a good show. Plans are already being made to improve the race program in 2016.

The next stop on the Ohio Fair Racing Conference schedule will be at the Cuyahoga County Fair at Berea on Tuesday (Aug. 11) with a 1 p.m. post time. That will be closely followed by a two-session meet at the Attica Independent Fair at Attica. Racing will take place at Attica on Wednesday (Aug. 12) at 6 p.m. and Thursday (Aug. 13) at 1 p.m.
