Five years ago to the week, trotter Captain Corey and horseman Åke Svanstedt teamed to win the Earl Beal Trot up the road from Harrah’s Philadelphia at Pocono Downs. Five years on and the pair are still teaming for winner’s circle visits, as now-sire Captain Corey and trainer-driver Svanstedt combined to win the two divisions of the fourth and final preliminary leg of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for freshman male trotters on Sunday (Aug. 23) at Philly, which offered $170,842 between the two PaSS divisions and three sections of the PA Stallion Series.

The Ake Svanstedt barn sent out three winning sons of Captain Corey in PA-sired third preliminary round stakes action for two-year-old trotting males Monday (Aug. 10) afternoon at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Sun, including the colt winners of both divisions of Sire Stakes events contested over a “sloppy” oval.
