Andy Miller and Brett Miller are not related, but they were in a way connected last week when each driver got the 10,000th win of his career. First was Andy, who notched his milestone triumph with Samwise The Brave on Aug. 20 at Lexington’s Red Mile. Five days later, Brett joined him in the 10,000-win club when he guided Flyin Bullets to victory at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

‘Soiree’ leads way for Wallin’s NJC hopefuls

Tattoo Artist leaving a lasting impression
One day prior to Tattoo Artist’s win in his elimination of the Canadian Pacing Derby this past weekend, trainer Ian Moore was jogging the 6-year-old pacer when he began reflecting upon his association with the stallion.
Wellwood champion T C I leads talented fields in PaSS finals at Pocono
T C I, fresh off his win in this past weekend’s William Wellwood Memorial in Canada, drew post five in a field of eight for Saturday’s $252,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes championship for 2-year-old male trotters at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
Winter Soldier ready to battle in Wellwood
Winter Soldier is a fighter, which might be the quality driver Andy McCarthy most admires when it comes to the 2-year-old male trotter. Winter Soldier is the 7-2 morning-line second choice in Saturday’s C$620,000 William Wellwood Memorial for rookie trotters at Woodbine Mohawk Park. He is one of two horses in the final for trainer Tony Alagna, who also will send out 9-2 third choice Mars Hill. Both were elimination winners last week.
Ross reflects on WDC journey
Jordan Ross experienced a number of “firsts” as a result of participating in last week’s World Driving Championship, which featured four days of competition in three Western European countries. Some of the firsts were related to traveling overseas for the first time, others to the racing, such as going in a clockwise direction at two of the tracks.
Harris hopes for calm in Peaceful Way
Andrew Harris liked Tandem Hanover when he purchased her as a yearling at last fall’s Standardbred Horse Sale — he wouldn’t have bid $510,000 if he didn’t — and the co-owner/trainer remains high on the female trotter as she prepares for Saturday’s (Aug. 26) C$425,000 Peaceful Way Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
‘Allywag’ looks for third Sun Stakes Saturday score
After picking up his first win of the season two weeks ago, Allywag Hanover will travel to Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania for Saturday’s $100,000 Always B Miki Invitational Pace, an event the 6-year-old has captured in each of the past two years.
T C I set for Wellwood test
Ron Burke does not often enter horses in the William Wellwood Memorial for 2-year-old trotters, but the trainer has enjoyed success in his limited trips to the event, winning in 2014 with Habitat and 2015 with Southwind Frank. On Saturday, Burke will have a horse in the Wellwood for only the second time in seven years when T C I meets seven foes in the third of three C$30,000 eliminations at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Melander looks for Pocono Sun Stakes repeats
It took several days for Marcus Melander to fully appreciate Heaven Hanover’s win in the Hambletonian Oaks two weeks ago, but her last-to-first triumph from post 10 at The Meadowlands certainly put an immediate smile on his face. On Saturday, Heaven Hanover will have another opportunity to put a smile on Melander’s face. She is among a field of eight 3-year-old female trotters that will meet in the $250,000 Delmonica Hanover Stakes at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
