Tequila Talkin notches 10th this year in Meadows $19,300 Trot; Palone wins five

Washington, PA – Tequila Talkin endured a demanding first quarter but still was much the best in Friday’s (Sept. 2) $19,300 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Tequila Talkin was parked from post seven that entire opening panel, but when they turned for home, the 7-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding responded to Dave Palone and defeated the pocket-sitting Joey by two lengths in 1:53.3, a tick off his lifetime mark. Refi completed the ticket.

Ron Burke trains Tequila Talkin, who triumphed for the 10th time this year and lifted his lifetime bankroll to $299,613, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. It was one of five wins for Palone on the 11-race card.

Saturday’s (Sept. 3) blockbuster card at The Meadows features four $253,000 Pennsylvania Sires Stake championships for 3-year-olds as well as a $50,000 consolation in each division. Overall, more than $1.2 million in purses will be up for grabs. The pari-mutuel program begins at 12:45 p.m., with a non-wagering event — one of the consolations — set for 12:30 p.m.
