Tequila Talkin reverses style, takes Meadows top trot

Washington, PA — In a shocking style reversal, the usually front-ending Tequila Talkin rallied from last to capture Wednesday’s (Nov. 22) $21,200 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Tequila Talkin was hammered down to 4-5, yet his backers may have been chagrined when Ronnie Wrenn Jr. took him back to seventh. Wrenn knew what he had. The 8-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding picked up the three-wide cover of Joygo through the final turn and outkicked him by a half-length in 1:54.4 over a “good” surface. The first-over Jeffery P finished third.

Ron Burke trains Tequila Talkin, who collected the fourth victory in his last five starts and now boasts a career bankroll of $529,698, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.

Jeremy Indof piloted five winners on the 15-race card, including two from post nine, one from post eight, and one from post seven. Wrenn enjoyed a three-bagger.

Following a break for Thanksgiving, live racing at The Meadows resumes Friday when the 15-race program kicks off at 12:45 p.m. That card features a $1,835.23 carryover in the Early Pentafecta (race four).
