Columbus, OH — Teresa Giovannucci, 69, also known as Teri G and The Big Mare, died Jan. 26, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Miami, Fla.
She was born in Worcester, Mass., on July 29, 1955, the daughter of Ernest and Ernestine (Pooler).
She worked as a caretaker for over 20 years and worked for Joe Caraluzzi and Mickey McNichol, Jerry Silverman and Ned Bowers. She took care of world champions Nearly Perfect and Keystone Helene. She also took care of Elwood Hanover.
In her early days she bartended at Village Inn in Vernon, N.Y., and then she left the horses, stayed in Florida, and bartended at Murray’s and Mickey’s Pub while pursuing a degree in nursing at Florida Atlantic University. She built a career at many healthcare facilities in South Florida.
In addition, she had a tremendous love for horses she used to train and own before her nursing career. She is remembered by many friends in the horse racing industry.
She had a tremendous love for animals, as she went on rescue missions abroad and saved cats and dogs after natural disasters.
Although she was never married, she is survived by her son, William (Tiffany) Dennison; granddaughter, Madalyn Dennison; grandson, Jonathan Shannon and his wife; and brother, Edward and his wife. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dean Dennison; great-grandson, Grayson Dennison; and brother, Peter (Irene).
