The Meadows suspends racing through Feb. 6

Columbus, OH — The Meadows Racetrack in Washington, Pa. updated the status of live racing there announcing that it will now be suspended through and including February 6, 2018 according to The Meadows Vice President and General Manager Allie Evangelista.
During the suspension of live racing, The Meadows Racetrack and Race Book will remain open for simulcasting along with their off-track betting facility at Hamar.
The suspension of live racing at The Meadows will have no impact on operations inside The Meadows Casino, its food and beverage outlets or its bowling facility.
Last Wednesday (Jan. 24), the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture was notified that a Standardbred horse at The Meadows had showed clinical signs consistent with Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy and tested positive for EHV-1. At that time, two barns were placed under quarantine and all horses were restricted from entering or leaving the track.

A Standardbred horse at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County tested positive Wednesday (Jan. 24) for equine herpes virus, or EHV-1, making it the second confirmed case in the state this month. Last week, veterinarians with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine confirmed a case at the school’s New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Chester County.

Ohio horsemen: In light of the unfortunate recent EHV-1 positives at The Meadows, Miami Valley Raceway will not be accepting entries on any horse that has raced or stabled at the western Pennsylvania track since Jan. 10, until further notice.
