Three Diamonds at Darke County to offer $10,000 purse

from the Darke County Fair

Greenville, OH — The Three Diamonds filly and mare open pace at the Darke County (Ohio) Fair will now carry a purse of $10,000.

The event is scheduled on closing night of the meet on Friday (Aug. 22).

Sugar Valley Farms in Delaware, Ohio, will award the winning mare a breeding to Woodstock. He is a son of Rocknroll Hanover, out of a full sister to the super sire Artsplace, Gothic Lady. Woodstock’s oldest foals are yearlings with some of them set to sell at the Blooded Horse Sale in Delaware, during the yearling section on Monday (Aug. 25).

Also, the Darke County Harness Horsemen’s Association will be footing the bill to ensure that every overnight division races for a minimum of $1,000. DCHHA President Kerby Wilcox made the announcement following a meeting with the DCHHA officers.

According to Wilcox, “We have worked hard to build our account and hope to establish a special purse account in the future to ensure higher purses for the afternoon sessions also. It all starts with county fair racing and our hope is to see a strong list of entries for our upcoming meet.”

Racing returns to Greenville, Ohio, on Friday night (Aug. 15) for the Great Darke County Fair’s annual week long race meet. Racing also takes place on Saturday (Aug. 16), afternoon and night, and on Thursday (Aug. 21) and Friday (Aug. 22) in the afternoons and nights. Afternoon post times are 1 p.m. except for Friday (Aug. 22) when it will be at 12 noon. Evening post times are at 7 p.m.
