Three-year-old colt pacing record broken at Montpelier

by Bill Peters, Regional Coordinator for the Ohio Fair Racing Conference

Edgerton, OH — The Williams County Fair at Montpelier, Ohio concluded a successful two-day meet with an eight-race card on Thursday (Sept. 14). The highlight of Thursday’s races was when Dancin Fever (Indian Fever-First To Cruise) paced in 1:57.4 to establish a new track record for 3-year-old colt pacers. The old mark was 1:58.4, which was co-held by Threetimer in 2002, Hezapeach in 2003, and Make A Big Splash in 2004.

Bill Webb trains Dancin Fever and also co-owns him with the D and K Stables LLC. Mark Headworth had the winning drive in the record-setting mile. Dancin Fever’s mile was also the fastest pace of the week.

Away My Baby (And Away We Go-Mink DeVille) stopped the timer at 2:02.1 in the second division of the 3-year-old filly trot for the fastest trot of the meet. Jim Lupton trains the filly and also shares the bills with Brandon Bartley. Art McIlmurray had the winning catch-drive behind Away My Baby.

David Lake had three wins at the Williams County Fair to lead all drivers. Leading trainer honors went to Mark Owen with two of his horses finding the winner’s circle.

Congratulations to Speed Superintendent Al Goebel for overseeing the successful program. The track crew of Roy and Scott Stantz and Frank Zimmer, with some added assistance from Eugene Wilson, are to be thanked for all their hard work in maintaining the track throughout the week.

Others to be thanked for contributing to the fair’s harness racing program include Charlotte and Eric Stantz, Bub and Sharon Steinke, Trudy Peters, Leonard Ludwig, Tim Belding, Matt Yoder, Tom Pye, Jerry Lighthill, and Dave Dietsch and his daughter.
