Three-year-old Iowa champions crowned

Humboldt, IA — Three Iowa-sired 3-year-olds went into Saturday’s (Aug. 25) final Iowa Sires Stakes meet with two wins – Minnie Vinnie, Scramble Camp, and Windy Sue. Two of the three put on another winning performance, and all three earned top divisional honors.

Three-year-old pacer Minnie Vinnie didn’t disappoint. Undefeated in Iowa-sired company the Millionaire Cam gelding won in a wire-to-wire 1:58.4 performance, over nine lengths ahead of the nearest competition, with Will Roland in the bike. Trained by Curtis Carey, Minnie Vinnie came into the race following an outstanding1:50.4 performance earning him third place honors in the Carl Milstein Memorial two weeks ago followed by an easy recovery with a 2:01 win at Humboldt last weekend. Out of Princess Zoie, a Village Juno mare, Minnie Vinnie repeated his 2017 title as the top Iowa-sired colt in his age division for owners Jeff Carey, Jesse Delong, Rick Huffman and Larry Mather.

Scramble Camp continued his winning streak improving his record to 12 wins in 13 starts in 2018. Trained and driven by Dan Roland, Scramble Camp sat in second until taking the lead at the head of the stretch to trot home in 2:02.1, with a last quarter in :29.2. The 3-year-old gelding was raised by owners Dan & Jeri Roland. Scramble Camp is by their stud Weight Lifter, a son of Muscles Yankee, and out of Hall of Beauty, a Conway Hall mare.

The third divisional leader coming into Saturday’s Iowa Sires Stakes meet with two wins was Windy Sue. Trained by Joel McDanel, the 3-year-old filly was bested by Lorenza Gooch’s Lo All America in 2:04, but her second place finish was enough to keep her on top of the points standings to take the Iowa-sired 3-year-old trotting filly title for owner Lesa Peters and owner/driver Mark Mintun. Bred by Lesa & Rick Peters, Windy Sue is by Southwind Elian, a son of Conway Hall, and out of the Vaporize mare Kennans Curley Sue.

Sneakydontfailme set a new lifetime mark in 1:59.3 to capture the fastest 3-year-old filly pace and her Iowa-sired divisional championship. Bred by Rudy Miller and trained and driven by Mark Mintun, Sneakydon’tfailme is by Sneaky B Skipalong out of Feetdon’tfailmenow. The filly has five wins in 11 starts in 2018 for owners Mintun, Stephanie Gould and Justin Gould.

With Iowa Sires Stakes racing finished for 2018, there are only three Iowa-registered meets left until the Sept. 22-23 Iowa Finals Weekend. After three weekends at Humboldt, racing moves to What Cheer with 2-year-olds competing on Saturday Sept. 1, followed by 3-year-olds on Sunday. Post time is 12:30 p.m.
