East Rutherford, NJ — Saturday night (March 9) brought one MADC race at The Meadowlands. The pace was fast as usual with some early moves and another race where the favorite made by the public did not win.
The first race on the card featured a combined MADC 1 and 2 caliber horses over the sloppy going with a -2 track variant. After some early coaxing to the lead, it was Big Bad Bill (Joe Lee) who took over the lead just after the quarter went in a swift :27. This would take its toll on him as the outer flow was out and about early and in full force.
As the field turned for home, there were pacers coming from two-, three-, and even four-wide and the top two were near the back of the pack for the first half-mile. In the stretch run, it was a patient Yer So Bad (Tony Verruso) that gained command to win by 2-3/4 lengths over another closer, Jo Pa’s Warrior (Dakota Jackson). The betting public favorite, Whammer Jammer (James Slendorn) rounded out the trifecta. The mile went in 1:54.4 over the sloppy surface but Verruso still came home in :26.4.
He co-owns the winner, a 7-year-old gelding, along with Karen Taft. Symon Spicer is the winning trainer.
The MADC will be back next Friday night. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
