Tracy’s Song looking for number 18

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — If this sounds redundant, then so be it. But in the 12th race on Monday (June 3) at Monticello Raceway, Tracys Song will be seeking yet another victory, which, if she succeeds, will be her 18th consecutive.

Still, her 17 seasonal victories lead all other Standardbreds in races won in North America this year.

Having toppled the track record of 15 wins in a row a few weeks back, now with every consecutive victory she adds to the record. Her next mountain to climb is not of the consecutive kind, but the record yearly total of 22 seasonal victories set by a British-bred pacer by the name of Golden Storm GB back in 1985.

Rated 6-5 on the morning line today by track oddsmaker John Flynn, Tracys Song will be racing five pacers that she hasn’t faced before and two that have fallen under her spell.

Still, trainer Bob Lounsbury and driver Bruce Aldrich, Jr. have confidence in their mare. Both gentlemen feel that Tracys Song can win again today.

“They’ll have to catch us to beat us,” chimed Lounsbury, but Aldrich was a bit more philosophical about things. “How long can she stay as sharp as she’s been,” he said. “I think we’re the best again today but only time will tell. Let’s face it, she’s going to get beat someday.”
