True Seelster breaks maiden in Meadows series opener

Washington, PA — A seven-race maiden entering the race, True Seelster powered up first over to upset the 4-5 favorite, Imelda Hanover, and capture Wednesday’s (March 8) $11,000 opening leg of the Donna Dunn Memorial Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

True Seelster was a 1:54.2 winner. Chris Gooden photo.

The series for 3- and 4-year-old fillies and mares honors the memory of the late Donna Dunn, longtime Standardbred owner and the wife of the late driver/trainer/owner/breeder Walter “Boots” Dunn.

Imelda Hanover faced little pressure up front until trainer/driver Brady Jenson moved True Seelster from third. The 3-year-old daughter of All Bets Off-Tanis Seelster drew even with Imelda Hanover and surged ahead in deep stretch, downing the favorite by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.2. Beth Dutton finished third.

Trainer Ron Burke fashioned a four-bagger on the 13-race card while Aaron Merriman and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. each piloted three winners.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 13-race program features the opening legs of a pair of series for 3- and 4-year-old trotters: the Mary Wohlmuth Memorial and the Dale McConnell Memorial. First post is 12:45 p.m.
