Twenty trotters entered in the Prix de France

When the entry box closed Monday morning (Feb. 8), 20 trotters were entered in the Prix de France at Vincennes next Sunday (Feb. 14).

The Prix de France is a rematch for the Prix d’Amerique horses, but raced over 1-5/16th miles. That is the shortest distance for races at Vincennes.

Last year Davidson du Pont beat Face Time Bourbon in the Prix de France, and both are aimed for the race again.
The start list will be ready Thursday at noon, European time, and it is expected that Team Snyders’ Aetos Kronos will be entered to race.

On Sunday (Feb. 7) the main event at Vincennes was the under-saddle race Prix de l’Ile-de-France over 1-5/16th miles with a standing start. Flamme du Goutier with Antoine Wiels in the saddle won easily in 1:54 (mile rate). The purse for the winner was $110,000.

Flamme du Goutier (sired by Ready Cash) is trained by Thierry Duvaldestin and was a close second in the Prix de Cornulier, the world’s richest under-saddle race. The winner in that race, Bahia Quesnot, was not entered to race this time.

On the same card, the Prix Ovide Moulinet for 5-year-old trotters was raced. Gu d’Heripre with Franck Nivard, who was third in the Prix d’Amerique, was the heavy favorite, but disappointed and went off stride around the last bend and was disqualified. Instead, the race was won by Gelati Cut, a handsome trotter sired by Coktail Jet, with Gabriele Gelormini in the bike.
