Two GSY paces on Friday at The Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — There were two GSY paces on Friday night (Sept. 16) at The Meadowlands and something unusual to start, they were both in the latter races on the card.

In the tenth race, there were a few who tried to leave for early supremacy. After a quarter in :27.1, longshot Casino Bags Anso (Jake Stillwell) garnered the lead over the post time favorite Scrappin Gold (Roy Marohn).

Marohn made a mid-race move at the half to take the lead and was able to pull away in the stretch. He won by open lengths in 1:54.3. Stillwell was able to hold second over a hard charging Deerfield Beach (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan).

The winner is a 5-year-old gelding, owned by Fiddler’s Creek Stables and trained by Travis Alexander.

In the 13th race, the start featured some late night hardball as Lindythefourteenth (Kubi Erzene) was determined to get to the lead. He parked out longshot Kingofthejungle (David Glasser) who left hard to no avail. As he was trying to get into the pocket, he was shut out of that hole by Vasari N (Sheridan) who wanted to sit the pocket. After a fast :27.2 first quarter, Erzene settled his pacer down, but when the long stretch came, his horse backed through the field.

This set it up for some of the closers to come calling and in the end it was Sunshine’s Finest (William Clark Jr.) who prevailed by a half-length over Vasari N and post time favorite E Z Noah (Tony Beltrami) rounded out the trifecta. The mile was timed in a soft 1:55.4 for this group.

The winner is a 6-year-old gelding, owned by Mary Cuerbo and trained by Tom Shay.

The GSY series will be at different venues the next few weeks. Stay tuned for when they return to the Big M.
