Unsurprisingly, the two big European races at Vincennes, the UET Elite Circuit Final for older horses and the Grand Prix de l’UET for 4-year-olds, were won by French Go On Boy and Swedish Epic Kronos, respectively.
The 8-year-old Go On Boy with his trainer Romain Derieux has often been driven very passively in the races, attacking too late to win. But in the UET Final, Derieux went on the offensive and it paid off,
Go On Boy (sired by Password) won easily in 1.51.2 (mile rate) ahead of Ganay de Banville with Jean Michel Bazire and Hooker Berry with Nicolas Bazire, while race favorite Idao de Tillard with Clement Duvaldestin finished fourth. The purse for the winner was 225,000 Euro.
In the Grand Prix de l’UET – also known as the European Derby – the winner’s purse was 200,000 Euros and the Italian mare East Asia with Alessandro Gocciadoro was the favorite.
However, she had nothing to do with the outcome as the Swedish Epic Kronos (sired by Muscle Hill), driven by Ôrjan Kihlström and trained by Daniel Redén, won in 1.53.4 (mile rate) ahead of the French Klara de Vandel with Alexandre Abrivard and Krack Time Atout with Paul Philippe Ploquin.
The distance in both the UET Final and the Grand Prix was 15/16 of a mile.
