Pompano Beach, FL — Undefeated two-year-old trotting filly What A Pearl goes for her third straight win Friday in the $6,103 first race at Pompano Park, which is one of seven divisions of the $33,000 Florida Sunshine Stakes on the program. What A Pearl starts from post six for driver Jay Sears and she is the 5-2 morning line favorite. Trained by Sears’ wife, Kim, and bred and owned by Richard Gaucher of Boynton Beach, Florida, What A Pearl has won her first two starts by an impressive total of 47 and a quarter lengths. She is sired by Keystone Smothers. Also looking to remain unbeaten is the two-year-old pacing filly Greatest Of All, who starts from post two in the second race $5,766 division of the Sunshine Stakes for trainer/driver Robert Williams, Jr. There are also four non-wagering divisions of the Sunshine Stakes and some of the standout performers include the three-year-old pacing filly Amethyst, who will be gunning for her seventh win in nine starts this year for the Rod Lorenzo Stable, while two-year-old pacing filly Youngbro Fancy tries for her third straight win, having won four of her six lifetime starts for the Hennessey Stable. The two-year-old colts and geldings battle Saturday in the Florida Sunshine Stakes. On both Friday and Saturday night, there will be free prize drawings for everyone age 18 and older to win family packs of passes to the upcoming Pompano Beach Air Show on October 16 and 17. The top prize each night is a free ride on a trainer fighter jet the morning of the air show.
