Paris – One of the major summer races at Vincennes for open class trotters is the Group 1 Prix Rene Balliere over 1-5/16 mile with a total prize pool of 200,000 Euros.
On Sunday afternoon, the race was surprisingly won by the outsider Jabalpur, driven by Gabriele Gelormini, in 1:50.3 (mile rate) – a new world record. The previous record was held by Face Time Bourbon with 1:51.1.
It was expected to be another triumph for Go On Boy with Romain Derieux, who was racing for the first time since winning the Elitloppet in Stockholm.
During the race, things looked good for the favorite, but down the stretch, Go On Boy began to drift out. On the inside, the 23-1 outsider Jabalpur appeared and moved forward to secure a clear victory ahead of Go On Boy.
Before the race, the 6-year-old Jabalpur (sired by Booster Winner, he by Love You) had only earned 326,090 Euros – about seven times less than Go On Boy’s earnings.
Now, Jabalpur has added 90,000 Euros to its earnings and can boast of winning a Group 1 race. Jabalpur is trained by Alain Chavatte.
