Update on injured drivers at Rosecroft Raceway

Fort Washington, MD — Three drivers injured in a seven horse accident at Rosecroft Raceway on Tuesday evening (May 22) are recuperating at Prince George’s County Hospital.
The accident occurred in the fifth race when the lead horse, Pinderonabender, driven by William Carter, took a bad step approaching the final three-eighths of a mile point of the race. That started a chain reaction that involved seven of the nine horses in the race.
As of Wednesday morning the following updates were received on the three drivers taken to the hospital:
- Carter has received stitches around his ears for cuts received and has three fractured vertebrae.
- Donnie Russell has an internal wrist fracture and suffered a separated collarbone which was reset. He will have surgery later today.
- Justin Hite has a cracked heel and a broken bone in the top part of his foot.
The remainder of the drivers involved in the accident — George Polk, Jr., Justin Brenneman, Charles Perry, Jr. and Justin Vincent — all received medical attention following the race and did not require any further treatment.
All the horses involved in the incident were uninjured.

According to WNEW, the Washington D.C. CBS affiliate, three drivers were hospitalized after a seven-horse accident Tuesday night (May 22) at Rosecroft Raceway.
