Verruso scores in MADC event Saturday

East Rutherford, NJ — Yer So Bad gave Tony Verruso victory in Saturday’s (April 6) lone Meadowlands Amateur Driving Club (MADC) event at the Meadowlands.

At least half of the eight-horse field vied for early supremacy in the usual calvary charge into the first turn, yielding a swift :27.1 first quarter. After the veteran Mariner Seelster (Tony Beltrami) took over from Yayas Hot Spot N (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan), he looked like he would once again be well on his way to the winner’s circle. But a middle move from Sunshine’s Finest (William Clark Jr.) gave Beltrami plenty to contend with. As the field entered the stretch, Yer So Bad tipped off second-over cover to gain command late and the victory by just over two lengths in 1:53.2. Beltrami and Mariner Seelster held on for second while long shot Gazoo (Michael Kimelman) got up for third. The mile was timed in 1:53.2. The 7-year old gelding is co-owned by Karen Taft out of NJ along with Verruso himself out of NY and is trained by Symon Spicer.

Symon Spicer trains the 7-year-old gelding Yer So Bad for Verruso, who shares ownership with Karen Taft.

The MADC will be back next Friday night (April 12); post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
