Ocean Pines, MD — Cheri Stambaugh, longtime administrator of the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund, will call it a career after 21 years, retiring May 1 to tend to her two cats and her cooking prowess.
Born into a racing family, Stambaugh’s father, Al, drove the starting gate for many years at Buffalo Raceway where she worked as a parade marshal and helped out at the family’s farm in Boston, N.Y. She then married the late trainer/driver Paul Glair, tending to his stable at various tracks throughout the country.
Prior to taking on her position with the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund, she managed breeding operations at Fox Den Farm in Union Bridge, Md.
“I will remain as a consultant to the MSRF program for a short period of time,” said Stambaugh, “helping my successor along the way.”
Her replacement is former race official Scott Warren of nearby Harrington, Del., and last seen as the race secretary at The Meadowlands and Vernon Downs. Ironically, Warren returns “home” to the two tracks he originally started at — Rosecroft Raceway and Ocean Downs.
The MSRF race line remains at 410.775.0152 while Warren can be reached via email at scott@msrfonline.com.
