Winbak Select Yearling Sale features top Delaware sires

by Marv Bachrad, for Winbak Farms

Chesapeake City, MD — Buoyed by the success of its first Delaware-sired sale last October, Winbak Farm will present its second Select Yearling Sale on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Winbak Farm, Chesapeake City, Md. There will also be several Maryland-sired yearlings. The Winbak 48-yearling contingent will be the largest group of Delaware-sired yearlings sold at one venue.

Last October, despite an overcast day, a large and enthusiastic turnout of horsemen, enticed by the rapidly growing interest in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund program, patronized the first Winbak Farm Select Yearling Sale which then featured 43 yearlings.

Again this fall, the sale will offer an excellent selection of yearlings by The First State’s three most popular and productive stallions, trotter CR Commando and pacers Badlands Hanover and Powerful Toy. This October they will be joined by the widely anticipated first crop of $1 million winning pacer Three Olives and major stakes-winning trotter Political Briefing.

The main focus will be on the colts and fillies eligible to the lucrative DSBF stakes program which in 2007 will again offer two $15,000 preliminary legs and two $100,000 finals, one at Dover Downs and the other at Harrington Raceway, for two-year-old pacers and trotters.

For those seeking a top Maryland bred, the first crop of Kentucky Futurity winning trotter Tejano will go under the auctioneer’s hammer. Maryland standout pacing stallions are the fast JK Outlaw and Bonnie And Clyde.
