Wilkes-Barre, PA – The 2025 racing season at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania ends in a month, but Pocono Director of Racing Rick Kane is looking to add some excitement to the remaining mid-week cards with the “Winter Is Coming” pair of series, pop-up events with one on each gait and each racing for a $20,000 Championship on the last calendar week of the Pocono season.
The series, which have no nominating or starting fees, are written for non-winners of $35,000 in 2025 with 10 or more calendar year starts at the time of declaration of the first leg. To thank the many horsemen who have been loyal in helping Pocono put up quality cards all year, all entrants must have made three of their last five starts in Pennsylvania at the time of first leg declaration.
Points are awarded on a 50-25-12-8-5-4-3-2-1 system, with each starter getting 25 additional points.
The two preliminaries for pacers are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3 and 10 for $12,500 a division, with the $20,000 Championship on Nov. 17. Trotters will go for the same money a day later: their prelims will go on Tuesday, the 4th and 11th, and their Championship on the 18th. The regular draw schedule at Pocono will apply for when entries need to be submitted.
