Wisconsin HHA announces annual meeting festivities

from the Wisconsin HHA

Madison, WI — The Wisconsin Harness Horse Association will hold its annual meeting and awards banquet in conjunction with the USTA District 4B meeting on January 21, 2012, in Madison Wisconsin. The all-day event will take place at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel on East Washington Avenue.

Dr. Phil Kapraun, prominent Standardbred racehorse veterinarian in the Midwest, will kick off the festivities at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Kapraun is well known for the use of his scanning machine and has done numerous studies on OCD’s and bone chips relating to the Standardbred and breeding. He is scheduled to speak for two hours on various issues regarding lameness. There will be plenty of time allotted for questions and answers.

The day will continue with the WHHA annual business meeting, USTA District 4B meeting (Directors Gabe Wand and Robert Yohn presiding) and USTA County Fair update (Jessica Schroeder presiding). Soda and snacks will be provided.

A buffet dinner will be served ($22.50 per plate) and will be followed by the Wisconsin annual awards banquet. Awards will be given to top horses and drivers for the 2011 season, along with a handful of prestigious awards which include three inductions into the Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame.

Following the awards will be a fund raising auction full of items for everyone. This is the WHHA’s biggest fund raiser of the year and helps to market harness racing and put on additional race meets throughout the racing season. If you have any items to spare, we are actively seeking donations. Please contact Becky Swinehart (608.868.4874) or (swinehartbecky@yahoo.com).

To reserve a hotel room, please contact the hotel directly. Be sure to ask for the WHHA room rate of $74 per night (includes free hot breakfast buffet). Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel, 3841 East Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53704. 608.244.2481.
