Won The West wins Indiana Pacing Derby

Shelbyville, IN — Won The West overcame a first over trip to win the $125,000 Indiana Pacing Derby on Saturday night (Nov. 6) at Indiana Downs.

With Ricky Macomber, Jr. in the bike for trainer Ron Burke, the 6-year-old Western Hanover-Gabrielle gelding scored in a time of 1:50.1 for his seventh win in 18 season’s starts, lifting his 2010 earnings to $1,333,768 for owners Strollin Stable, William Robinson and James Koehler. Won The West has now banked $3,452,704 lifetime.

Hypnotic Blue Chip and Dave Palone left strongly from post position nine and set fractions of :26.4, :54.4 and 1:22.4. Macomber got Won The West away fourth and came first over, while still fourth, at the half-mile marker. They were still on the outside of Hypnotic Blue Chip, but now third, at the three-quarter pole.

Won The West took over the lead at the head of the stretch over the fading Hypnotic Blue Chip, then held off the late charge of Bettor Sweet (Peter Wrenn) to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:50.1. Freddyscooter was third for Trace Tetrick while Dali (Josh Sutton), who had the pocket trip throughout the mile, had to settle for fourth. Hypnotic Blue Chip faded to fifth, 4-3/4 lengths behind the winner.

Also on tap on the Saturday card at Indiana Downs was the $250,000 Monument Circle for 3-year-old colt pacers. Allthatgltrsisgold won a tight three horse photo to score in a time of 1:52.3. Dan Shetler was in the bike for trainer Bobby Brower as the Cam’s Card Shark-Glitter N Glitz sophomore posted his sixth triumph in 20 season’s starts. He has now banked $418,045 this year for owner Victory Hill Farm Inc.

Allthatgltrsisgold rallied from fourth place at the three-quarter pole to win by a neck over both runner-up Iam Bonasera (Dave Magee) and third place finisher Trick Man (Ray Paver).
