Allegiant made a successful return to racing Wednesday night (July 15), winning at Eskilstuna, Sweden in her first start since setting a world record at Solvalla.
The Daniel Redén-trained 5-year-old daughter of Tactical Landing, driven by Örjan Kihlström, was given what appeared to be an ideal spot: a mares’ race for 5- and 6-year-olds carrying a first prize of SEK 150,000.
Sent off at odds of 1-10, Allegiant was briefly headed in the opening stages as Nephtys Boko and Björn Goop moved to the front.
But after 600 meters, Allegiant took command. Maharasha, with Rikard N Skoglund in the sulky, launched a challenge in the stretch, but the outcome was never seriously in doubt.
Allegiant opened up again in the final strides and won decisively in 1.542f (mile rate). Maharasha finished second beaten two lengths.
“Allegiant was just as I expected her to be, racing in an open bridle and with earplugs,” Redén said afterward. “She is ready for her next assignment — the Åbergs Memorial on the 28th at Jägersro.”
