by Chris Tully, general manager, Goshen Historic Track

Goshen, NY — Members of the general public are invited to watch the Harness Horse Youth League Camp race on Thursday, July 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Goshen Historic Track.

Seven local kids, ages 12-14, will be participating in a one mile harness race with two-seated jog carts accompanied by licensed harness drivers. There will be two races; the first with four horses and the second with three horses competing, both with a mobile starting gate start.

Camp participants have been working with horses at Historic Track since Sunday, July 18. The campers all learned about how to properly care for a horse, and by week’s end, will have trained and competed in the exhibition races.

The Harness Horse Youth Foundation, established in 1976, addresses youth education throughout the United States and Canada. HHYF is a charitable 501 (c) 3 organization which offers opportunities for hands-on learning with Standardbreds. Additional programs include publishing instructive information and administering scholarships for students pursuing higher education. Their mission: “To provide young people and their families information and experiences with harness horses in order to foster the next generation of fans and participants.”
