Green County Fair in Wisconsin to host racing on Sunday

by Rick Tittsler

Mequon, WI — For harness fans living anywhere near south-central Wisconsin, Monroe is the place to be this Sunday, July 25. The Green County Fairgrounds, located on the east side of town, will host trotters and pacers from around the tri-state. Post time is a “bright-and-early” 10:30 a.m. on this nice half-miler. Speed Superintendent John Remley closes entries at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22.

This is a true county fair atmosphere. In fact, the amusement rides must remain closed as the horsemen and women lead their horses from the barn through the midway to this historic track.

Last year, the Green County Fair Board and track maintenance staff did an incredible job getting the track ready following heavy rains the night before the races. The folks around Monroe love their harness racing, and the hard-working Fair Board makes it all happen.

Monroe is located between Madison, Dubuque and Rockford in the rolling dairy lands of southern Wisconsin. Travel time from either Madison, Wisconsin or Rockford, Illinois is just 1 hour and 15 minutes. From Dubuque, Iowa, race fans should allow about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
