Vernon, NY – Zapaca (Leon Bailey) captures the $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Sept. 5).
Lous Lancelot (John MacDonald) led to the quarter in :26.4. He used a :30.4 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.3. Pariso (Chris Long) was first-up heading around the final turn. Lous Lancelot led to three quarters in 1:26.2.

As they entered mid-stretch second place finisher Lous Lancelot was joined on the inside by third place finisher Fringed (Dan Daley) and on the outside by Zapaca ($20.42). Zapaca used a late surge to get the win in 1:55.4.
Zapaca is an 8-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide. He is owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson. It was his fourth win this season. He now has 22 career victories.
Jimmy Whittemore had a driving grand slam. He got his wins with Ideal Amy, Lormettie, Dream On A Roll, and Tantra Blue Chip. Gary Gibson and Robert Gale had training hat tricks.
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (Sept. 6) with a post time of 3 p.m.
