Zapaca wins feature at Vernon

Vernon, NY – Zapaca (Steeven Genois) captures the $6,500 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 5).

Zapaca ($3.40) went right to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. He used a :30.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.3. Woodside Gabe (Leon Bailey) came first-up and battled for the lead as they went around the final turn. Zapaca led to three-quarters in 1:26.0

As they reached the stretch Woodside Gabe kept coming at Zapaca. Zapaca dug in and won in 1:55.0. Match My Miracle (Frank Affrunti) finished third.

Zapaca is a 7-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide. He is owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson. It was his fourth win this season. He now has 15 career victories.

Leon Bailey had a driving hat trick. Frank Affrunti, John MacDonald, and Michael Miller had driving doubles. George Ducharme had a training double.
