$16k carryover in Wed. Hi-5 at Northfield

Northfield, OH — A pair of massive long shots made sweeping moves through the stretch to finish first and second in the 13th race on Tuesday (Jan. 24) at MGM Northfield Park, creating a carryover of $16,853.87 in the Super Hi-5 in Wednesday’s (Jan. 25) first race.

Flash Gordon (driven by Jason Thompson), who was second fronm last at the three-quarter pole, swooped the field to win by a neck at 55-1 over another long shot, the 16-1 Remembering Shorty (Aaron Merriman), who also closed from off the pace. Odds-on favorite Moscow Mitch (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) finished third, beaten by a neck, after setting the pace throughout the mile.

The result of 8-7-2-6-1 proved to be too difficult for gamblers to come up with in the Super Hi-5, leading to the massive carryover. Wednesday’s first race, which gets underway at 6 p.m. will feature a $75,000 estimated Super Hi-5 pool.
