Batavia Downs posts marked handle increase in 2024
The 2024 racing season wrapped up at Batavia Downs last Saturday (Dec. 7) and that also closed the track’s books for the year. After all the paperwork was finalized, the bottom line showed that the business of harness racing at Batavia Downs is operating at a record pace.
Last call for USHWA Media Awards
The best of harness racing journalism in 2024 will be honored by the U.S. Harness Writers Association with the John Hervey Awards for writing, Sam McKee Award for broadcasting, and George Smallsreed Awards for photography. The deadline for entries in all categories is 5 p.m. (EST) Dec. 10.

Giant Hit, 32, dies
Giant Hit 2,1:58; 3,1:54.2 ($646,650), died Nov. 27, 2024. The retired stallion was residing at Winbak Farm of Delaware. He was euthanized due to age-related issues at 32 years old.
Beltrami, Sheridan double on AHDC weekend
Tony Beltrami swept the divisions of the American Harness Drivers Club Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (Dec. 7) while Yogi Sheridan doubled in the three AHDC dashes at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Sunday (Dec. 8).
Eight horses now qualified for Prix d’Amerique
Josh Power, Emeraude de Bais, Hokkaido Jiel, and Fakir de Mahey. These four French trotters are now ready for the Prix d’Amerique after Sunday’s (Dec. 8) qualifying race, the Prix de Bourbonnais at Vincennes.
