Columbus, OH — Ronald Dale Oldfield, 78, died Nov. 26, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Born March 4, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of George B. and Maude M. (Smith).
He is survived by his son, Dr. Ronald G.; daughter-in-law, Kerry; grandchildren, Madeline, Russell and Kara; special friend, Jean Bondie; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ryan; brother, Richard; and sisters, Sally Brown and Shirley.
Mr. Oldfield was a member of the USTA for over 58 years as well as a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, Elks and Moose Lodges. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed the comradery of his fellow veterans in his community.
In his early years, he worked alongside his father and brother building the successful businesses of Adrian Sand and Gravel and Oldfield Trucking in Ohio and Michigan.
Horses were a large part of his life beginning in 1963 with part ownership of the good trotter Propensity 5,2:01.1. He raced many as an owner, trainer and driver including Jackson Patriot p,1:57.1f and Nouvelles Victory 4,1:56.1s and was the breeder of Me Boy p,1:51.2 ($364,631). For years he spent winters at Sunshine Meadows in Florida and enjoyed racing the northwestern Ohio colt circuit.
