Top French trotter General du Pommeau, 30, dies

The top French trotter General du Pommeau has died at the age of 30.

General du Pommeau won several classic races in France as 3-, 4- and 5-year-old and continued to win the Prix d’Amerique as a 6-year-old, lowering the record from 1:59.3 to 1:56.4 (mile rate). He had lifetime earnings of 5,920,051 Euro, which makes him the fifth all-time richest French trotter. General du Pommeau raced 95 times and won 40 races.

He was never as successful as a stallion as he was at the racetrack and in 2013 he was retired and lived until Sunday as a pensioner at a farm in Normandy.
