The top French trotter General du Pommeau has died at the age of 30.
General du Pommeau won several classic races in France as 3-, 4- and 5-year-old and continued to win the Prix d’Amerique as a 6-year-old, lowering the record from 1:59.3 to 1:56.4 (mile rate). He had lifetime earnings of 5,920,051 Euro, which makes him the fifth all-time richest French trotter. General du Pommeau raced 95 times and won 40 races.
He was never as successful as a stallion as he was at the racetrack and in 2013 he was retired and lived until Sunday as a pensioner at a farm in Normandy.
