Monticello, NY — On paper it looked like a contest between the unbeaten Cowgirl Hanover, winner of last week’s New York Sire Stake race at Buffalo and All Hail The Queen, who was making her pari-mutuel debut after a pair of strong winning qualifier performances at Monticello. However, when the dust settled Cowgirl Hanover was clearly the best Monday afternoon (July 1) and extended her winning streak.

The betting public installed All Hail The Queen as the favorite in the $106,300 Sire Stakes event.

Bronx Mixer (Matt Kakaley) from the rail was the first to the front. Coming out of the first turn Cowgirl Hanover got away second along the rail. For a moment it appeared that Scott Zeron would pull from the pocket to take the lead, but Zeron opted to sit in the garden spot. Send It Down Slim (Mark MacDonald), scoring from post position four, was still settling in late and went on for the lead in the opening panel of :28.

They went to the half in :58.2 with the gap diminished with the field still in straight alignment. The favorite All Hail The Queen (Jason Bartlett) was fourth at this point, while Americanbeachdream (Fern Paquet Jr.) was a handful in the pocket and was all over Bartlett’s helmet and came off the rail just past the half.

At the five-eighths maker Zeron made his first over move with Cowgirl Hanover with All Hail The Queen in tow as they hit the next panel in 1:28.1. Turning for home Cowgirl Hanover was extending her lead and was not to be denied and soundly dispatched her foes and scored in 1:56.2. A fast closing Bronx Mixer was second, followed by Send It Down Slim. All Hail The Queen finished fourth.

Cowgirl Hanover (Huntsville–Code One Hanover) extended her perfect slate to two consecutive NYSS wins for trainer Jared Bako and owner by NY Seb Inc.; with the win she pushed her seasonal earnings to $78,900.

In Excelsior action, Greg Merton and Blake Macintosh teamed up for a double, first with Courtly Maiden (Courtly Choice–Maid West) in 2:00.2 ($37.80) for her first lifetime win; the duo then came back and won with Mom’s Point (American Ideal–Bullet Point) in a pocket sitting trip in 2:01.3 ($11.20) and earned a new record in the process. Trainer Travis Alexander saw his Blind Date Hanover (Huntsville–Blind Ambition) lead from start to finish to trip the beam in 1:59.2 ($3.90) with Matt Kakaley in the bike in the other split.
