Skowhegan, ME — Andy Harrington has carried over the momentum gained from his recent driving championship earned at last week’s Topsham Fair to remain one of the most relevant drivers competing at the latest stop along Maine’s fairground circuit, the Skowhegan State Fair.
Harrington teamed back-to-back winners on Tuesday (Aug. 13) evening’s card, sending Coffee Can Cash (1:58-$7.40) boldly into a first-over charge through a torrid :57.4 back-half, driving through the lane to nip the competition in a three-wide photo at the wire.
The win was the fifth of the season for the 4-year-old son of Betting Line who is owned by Gibbs Racing.
Harrington roared right back into the winner’s circle after securing a pocket journey with Fern Hill Flight (1:56.3-$14.80), leaving alertly from post seven to drop into the garden seat as the field reached the eighth pole. Harrington rode the garden spot all the way through the final turn before squeezing up the pylons in the stretch to post the one-length score.
The 1:56.3 clocking equaled the seasonal best for the 6-year-old son of Source Of Pride who is owned by Melvin Grant.
Harrington’s winners, both hailing from his wife Sara’s stable, increased his tally for the Skowhegan meet to five for the week. He currently resides in a second place tie on the Skowhegan leaderboard, knotted up with Walter Case Jr. and Aaron Hall, while Kevin Switzer Jr. continues to set the standard with eight wins thus far this week.
Skowhegan State Fair will present racing under the lights for the next two sessions with live harness racing on Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 14-15) evenings with post time scheduled for 7 p.m. (EDT).
Skowhegan’s simulcast will be available for viewing and wagering on most national ADWs and brick and mortar locations through an agreement with Great Pine Racing.
