A month after the 6-year-old mare Joumba de Guez won the world’s richest under-saddle race, the Prix de Cornulier, she won the longest international trotting race at Vincennes, the 2-5/8 mile Prix de Paris for sulky.
Joumba de Guez, trained by Nicolas Bazire and with his father Jean Michel Bazire driving, showed with Sunday’s (Feb. 23) victory in the Prix de Paris that she is equally good in both trotting disciplines, whether it’s under saddle or with a sulky.
Jean Michel Bazire drove offensively with the chestnut mare, and during the race there were fractions of :26.2! Even though Joumba de Guez was tired entering the stretch and drifted to the outside, she secured the victory in 1:55.4 (mile rate), followed by Hussard du Landret, who won the race last year.
There was a first prize of 180,000 Euros for Joumba de Guez in the 2-5/8 mile event.
