The average price rose to 211,200 kroner compared to 161,981 kroner last year at Menhammar Stud’s yearling sale on the internet, which concluded Sunday (Aug. 17).
The most expensive horse cost 1 million kroner. It was the colt Jembe, a son of Maharajah-Timbal. The mother has previously had Flyingdrumsticks S, sired by Muscle Hill, who won six of 10 total races in the U.S. at ages 2 and 3 and was third in a division of the 2023 Bluegrass Stakes. The buyer was Stall Travkompaniet, so the horse stayed in the family, as it is Menhammar that manages Travkompaniet.
Stall Travkompaniet also bought the auction’s third most expensive horse, the colt Jackaroo (Calgary Games-Way Out West) for 600,000 kroner. The mother has previously brought East Ward (sired by Maharajah) 1.57.2 – 371,246 kroner.
The second most expensive horse at the auction, at 650,000 kroner, was bought by trainer Timo Nurmos. It was the colt Judicious (Calgary Games-Dutiful). He is the mother’s second foal.
The median price at the auction was 130,000 kroner – last year it was 100,000 kroner; 100 kroner (Swedish) is 10.46 US dollars.
