Fort Washington, MD – Driver Roger Plante Jr. took top honors on Thursday (Nov. 13) at Rosecroft Raceway with a sweep of the evening’s co-featured events for pacing fillies and mares.
Plante kicked off the evening with a 1:55.1 win aboard Oh Ophelia, whom he also owns and trains, in the $8,500 feature for developing fillies and mares who have not won eight races. The 3-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous-Hey Lolly La sprinted to a clear lead from post seven, rated fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.1, and held off a challenge from pocket rival Betty’s Rockin (driven by Frank Milby) to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.1.
Oh Ophelia, who won for the fifth time in her career and her third time in five starts this meet, paid $2.80 to win as the 2-5 favorite.
Plante came back to win the 10th race, the $9,000 feature for top-level conditioned mares, with Katie Callahan trainee Roll The Music. After getting away third and stalking 2-1 favorite Pasta Momma (Jonathan Roberts) and Bluebird Ina (Billy Carter) through a :55.3 half, Roll The Music began a first-over grind up the backstretch and held her ground in a stretch-long battle to defeat Pasta Momma by a nose in 1:53.3.
Roll The Music, a 5-year-old Roll With Joe-Puccini Blue Chip mare, now has won three of her last four starts for owner Brian Callahan. The 14-time winner paid $8.60 to win as the 3-1 third choice.
