COLD WEATHER HOT STREAK
Alwaysanun, a 5-year-old mare by Always A Virgin, has been sharp since joining the Brandon Presto Stable. A fall pickup by the barn, she has won all five of her starts since coming to The Meadows from western New York, most recently last Thursday (Dec. 4) in 1:53.1. She has been driven in the last four starts by Justin Irvine, and has worked her way up from optional $8,000 claiming ranks to the optional $15,000 level.
SIMPSON REACHES 100 WINS
Dirk Simpson became the third trainer this season at The Meadows to reach the 100-win mark, hitting the milestone with a banner day. He joined Ron Burke (229) and Brandon Presto (121). Simpson entered last Thursday’s card with 96 victories, then sent four horses to the winner’s circle on the 14-race card: Gypsy Rose Lou (Race 2), Fox Valley Millie (Race 3), Modern Luxury (Race 8) and Royal Comet (Race 13).
Royal Comet, a 3-year-old son of Muscle Mass, has now won all three of his Meadows starts since arriving from Iowa. Owned by ex-NBA star Sam Bowie, Royal Comet continues to work his way up the class ladder and will go for his fourth straight win on Wednesday, in Race 14.
