Dover, DE – Jett Propelled waged war and took no prisoners in the Mares Select Handicap pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday (Feb.25) night.
Sparks were flying early when Jett Propelled and Ballast raced side-by-side at the start of the race. The two pacing mares scorched the opening quarter in :25.4. Jett Propelled and driver Jason Thompson turned up the heat and continued to park out a stubborn Ballast in front of the stands. Driver Tim Tetrick and Ballast retreated to the pylons, taking full advantage of the gapping field before the half. Jett Propelled continued to race angry and powered to the half in :54.3. a :28.4 quarter.

Jett Propelled continued on a mission leading the field of quality pacing mares up the backstretch. Linemup Knockmback braved a first over bid in pursuit of a fired up Jett Propelled. Racin Hungry followed second-over. Ballast looked for renewed life in the pocket. Linemmup Knockmback pressured pace-setter Jett Propelled at the three-quarters in 1:22.3, a :28 flat quarter.
Jett Propelled, the 6/5 betting favorite, kicked in another gear and drew off in the stretch to win by two and three-quarter lengths. She paced her mile in 1:51.4, a lifetime mark and paid $4.6 to win for her backers.
Racin Hungry finished second. Linemup Knockmback finished third.
Jett Propelled ( Roddy’s Bags Again) is owned, trained and bred by Bob Shahan. Jason Thompson drove.
After the race, Bob Shahan responded by saying “ I’m ecstatic”. I was a little concerned with the 25.4 quarter”. When told it was a lifetime mark, Bob noted “not bad for a homebred”. Driver Jason Thompson commented after the race. “ I was dying to race her on the front after sitting along the pylons in her earlier races. I knew she would be better racing that way” Mission accomplished.
Driver Tim Tetrick posted a driving triple. There is a pick 5 carry over worth $2,098 beginning on the sixth race Thursday night (Feb.26)
Tomorrow’s feature race at Bally’s Dover will be the 10th race $25,000 Open Handicap pace. Muskateer Hanover, last week’s winner, battles rivals Downers Delight, Steven’s Saloon and 11-year-old Itsrockandroll A.
