Cagnes-sur-Mer — France’s biggest sprint race, the Grand Criterium de Vitesse raced Sunday afternoon (March 8) at Cagnes-sur-Mer, was convincingly won by Iguski Sautonne with Matthieu Abrivard in the sulky in 1:50.2 – the world’s fastest winning time so far in 2026.
You could rightly describe the 8-year-old Iguski Sautonne (sired by Village Mystic) as an all-round horse.
Two months ago, he won the world’s largest under saddle race, Prix de Cornulier, and on Sunday afternoon, Iguski Sautonne captured France’s biggest sprint race, the Grand Criterium de Vitesse, in the fastest time in the world this year – 1:50.2 – which is also the second fastest time in the history of the race.
Iguski Sautonne, with his trainer Matthieu Abrivard in the sulky, led from start to finish. The race favorite, Go On Boy with Romain Derieux, moved up to the outside after 600 meters, but could not threaten Iguski Sautonne, who won easily and earned the first prize of 90,000 euros.
Go On Boy couldn’t hold onto second place, which was claimed by Harley Gemma, with Benjamin Rochard, while Go On Boy – just ahead of Inmarosa with Leo Abrivard – finished third.
