Columbus, OH – Brett Beckwith, the second-leading driver in wins (185) in North America, suffered multiple injuries in an accident before the sixth race at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Sunday (April 12).

Beckwith was driving One More Bet for his mother, trainer Melissa Beckwith, when the horse fell behind the starting gate and was scratched.
Melissa posted the following on Facebook to provide an update on Brett’s condition and injuries:
“First I want to start by saying how grateful we are for your prayers and well wishes! To avoid rumors and panic, I want to give an update on Brett. He is stable and his vitals have been great throughout the entire day. He unfortunately broke his wrist and jaw. They will do surgery to repair his wrist. He does have a minor brain bleed. The neurosurgeon described it to us as if your brain has bruises on it. He is very optimistic that it will heal on its own and requires no type of surgery at this time. To be safe, Brett will receive regular CT scans to keep an eye on his brain and if there are any changes. He has been alert this entire time and knows what is going on. As to be expected he is upset that he will have to sit on the sidelines for sometime but we are just thankful that he is ok. This has all been very overwhelming for our family If we don’t get back to you, please know we are just focused on Brett and his recovery but we appreciate all of you and our harness racing family.”
Future updates on Beckwith will be reported when they become available.
