Bangor, ME – McGwire Sowers brought the big lumber to historic Bass Park on Sunday (May 31), stepping confidently up to the plate and slugging three long ball volleys that each landed squarely in the Bangor Raceway winner’s circle.
Taking strategic advantage of a decided speed-favoring bias, all three of Sowers’ driving wins came in aggressive gate-to-wire fashion over the breezy mid-Maine oval as cunning guile and expert tempo control netted the lion’s share for the 26-year-old teamster.

Skyway Freakshow (1:58.1, $3.40) provided the early case-in-point as Sowers strolled his charge through an unhurried 1:00.4 opening half before discouraging all challengers by throttling home in a stern :57.2 closing circuit. The win was the fifth from the last seven appearances for the Freaky Feet Pete mare, who McGwire owns in partnership with his wife, Autym.
Not content with a single victory, the Sowers stable roared right back into action with another imposing front-end march featuring a relative newcomer to its roster, Wiggle It Betty (1:58.3, $3). Confidently coasting through comfortable fractions, the 4-year-old granddaughter of Mr Wiggles scored her fifth win of the season and first since setting up her tack trunk in Maine for owner Kimberly Zabielski.
Sowers completed his three-win-day with an extremely well-meant effort behind the Richard Allaby trained-Walk It Talk It (1:58.2, $2.40). The win marked the fourth win from the last seven starts for the 9-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight and was one of two top-tallies on the card for the meet’s leading trainer.
Sowers elevated himself into the top spot on the Bangor Raceway leaderboard with his prodigious performance on Sunday. His 19 seasonal local scores tally two more than both Heath Campbell and Kevin Switzer Jr., who jointly occupy second place.
