Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.
FOUR RACE CARDS THIS WEEK
The Meadows returns to its regular summer schedule this week, with action on Wednesday and Thursday at 12:45 p.m., Friday evening at 5:10, and Saturday at 12:45 p.m. (EDT). Saturday’s card will feature Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and PA Stallion Series stakes for 3-year-old trotting colts/geldings and fillies.
FORMER ADIOS WINNERS SHINE
When the top-three finishers hit the wire just noses apart on Saturday (Aug. 8) in the second of two divisions of the Grade 2 Sam McKee Memorial Pace at the Meadowlands, most people saw three of the best older horses in the nation battle to the finish. Fans of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace (G1) noticed something else. Captain Albano, Saturday’s winner, was the 2024 Adios champion. He narrowly defeated Prince Hal Hanover (2025 Adios winner) and Bythemissal (2022 Adios winner). It was a rare Adios trifecta to say the least.
ADIOO VOLO WINNER RETURNS FOR WEDNESDAY FEATURE
Shacarri, winner of one of two Grade 3 Mickey Burke Adioo Volo divisions on Adios Day last month, returns to The Meadows on Wednesday. Trainer Ron Burke will send the daughter of Summa Cum Laude forward from post 5 in the day’s featured sixth race for pacing fillies and mares. She will face a field that includes Elsa D, who was picked from a $10,000 claimer last month by trainer Brandon Presto. The 4-year-old mare then reeled off three straight wins, including a 1:50.2 triumph, before finishing third in 1:50 this past week.
FOUR QUALIFIERS SET FOR TUESDAY
A total of four qualifying races will take place Tuesday morning (Aug. 11) at The Meadows. They can be watched live on the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association’s Facebook page. First post is 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
