Grove City, OH – Easter Bb equaled the trotting track record at the Champaign County Fair in Urbana, OH, to highlight the 11-race Buckeye Stallion Series card on Monday (Aug. 10). The track hosted six $20,000 divisions of the third leg of the BSS for freshman colt trotters and five $20,000 divisions of the second leg for freshman filly pacers.
Bb (Chris Page) won the first division of colt trotters by 5-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1, equaling the trotting track record set by Atlas Peak in 2019. The Creatine gelding led gate to wire, posting fractions of :30, :59.2, and 1:27. Aiming To Please (Luke Hanners) and Smoking Mars (Kevin Detweiler) rounded out the top three. Easter Bb has a pair of BSS wins this season as part of a 6-0-1 record and $60,330 in earnings in seven starts. He is trained by Phillip Knox for owner Brant Brower.
Obsessed With Me and Lou Armstrong also scored their second BSS wins of the season, taking the fourth and sixth divisions of colt trotters, respectively.
Obessed With Me (Brett Miller) led gate to wire and won by 8-3/4 lengths in 1:59 for trainer Matthew Burkholder and owner Dark Horse Farm. Senor Julio (Dan Noble) was second followed by Going Steady (Clifton Bell) in third. Obsessed With Me recorded fractions of :30.4, 1:01.2, and 1:31.1. The Ready For Moni gelding has a 2-0-0 record and $22,500 in earnings in four seasonal starts.
Lou Armstrong (Anthony MacDonald) won in gate-to-wire fashion in 1:58.2. The Cuatro De Julio gelding posted fractions of :29.4, 1:00.3, and 1:31 and won by five lengths with Dynasty Moni (Noble) and Jackson (Ronnie Gillespie) rounding out the top three. Lou Armstrong is trained by Jason McGinnis for owner Thestable Lou Armstrong. He has four wins in six seasonal starts while banking $57,100.
Great Start (L. Hanners) won the second division by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:57.3 as Way Too Easy (Miller) and Believe In Dreams (Sam Widger) rounded out the top three. It was the first career win for Great Start, an Uncle Peter gelding trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. and owned by Joyce A McClelland Stable.
Inrange Anytime (Detweiler) won the third division by 2-1/4lengths in a lifetime-best 2:00, coming from fourth place and more than four lengths back of the leader at the three-quarter pole to do so. Dollar Guard (Page) was second followed by Dynamic Count (Widger) in third. Inrange Anytime is an In Range gelding trained by Leander Schwartz for owners Brian Carsey and Black And White Stable. He has a 2-2-2 record with $21,162 in earnings in six seasonal starts.
Camsflashyaction (L. Hanners) won the fifth division by half a length in 2:00.2 for his first career victory, improving his record to 1-1-1 in three starts with $17,400 in earnings. Lets Go Long (Austin Hanners) and Sergeant Chino (Justin Irvine) rounded out the top three. Camsflashyaction is an Action Uncle gelding trained by Morgan Jr. for owners Joyce A McClelland Stable, Larry Wills, and Jeffrey Rector.
Freshman Filly Pacers
Our Grey Heart (Jeff Nisonger) headlined the freshman filly pace winners as the lone horse to secure a second BSS victory in as many legs. The Heart Of Chewbacca filly led gate to wire in winning the fourth division by a length in 1:58 after posting fractions of :29, 1:00, and 1:29.3. Rose Run Cadence (A. Hanners) was second followed by Sallie Kaa Dee (Cameron McCown) in third. Our Grey Heart is trained by Nisonger for owner Cis Racing. She improved her record to 5-2-1 in eight starts with $27,940 in earnings.
Tina Fire (A. Hanners) recorded the fastest mile of the five filly races, taking the fifth division by half a length in 1:56.4 for trainer Todd Luther and owner Greg Luther Racing. The Catch The Fire filly led gate to wire with fractions of :29.4, :59.1, and 1:28. Gillette (Irvine) and Midnight Haze (Chris Lems) rounded out the top three. Tina Fire has hit the board in five of six seasonal starts with two wins and three seconds to go with earnings of $20,192.
Ds Ava (Lems) won the first division by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:59.4 for her first career victory. The Monte Miki filly led at every call in :30, 1:00.1, and 1:31.2 and now has a record of 1-1-1 along with $16,200 in earnings in four starts. Pictures Of Lily (Mike Micallef) and Ecclesiastes (Miller) rounded out the top three. Ds Ava is trained by Scott Cox for owners Wayne Mast Jr., Jason Ash, Green Wave Racing, and Wayne Zollars.
Ides Of April (L. Hanners) led gate to wire in the second division and edged Up The Heat (Noble) by a neck at the line to win in 1:57.4. Delightful Fire (Kayne Kauffman) was third. Ides Of April recorded fractions of :30, :59.1, and 1:28.4 and has one win and one third in three seasonal starts, banking $11,116. The Downbytheseaside filly is trained by Morgan Jr. for owners Don Tiger, Ray France, and William Thurston.
In the third division, Can’tcatchthelady (Nisonger) finished second but was placed first, finishing in 1:57.2. Brie Blue Chip (Miller) and Apple By The Sea (L. Hanners) finished third and fourth but were placed second and third, respectively, following an inside pylon violation by Well Intentioned (Irvine). Can’tcatchthelady has a 2-2-1 record and $21,385 in earnings in six seasonal starts. The Catch The Fire filly is trained by Mark Winters and owned by Harry Horowitz Estate.
The Buckeye Stallion Series continues Saturday (Aug. 15) with the third leg for freshman colt pacers at Northfield Park Racino.
